Clara Isabel Arevelo (Fritz) and Darryn Anthony Scheeper’s vintage glamour wedding at Morrell’s Boutique Hotel, 6th December 2015.
I get very excited when I hear a bride-to-be is getting married at the fabulous Morrell’s Boutique Hotel in Northcliff, Johannesburg. This luxurious venue offers a full service from start to finish, with every detail considered and every whim catered for. The latter makes for a relaxed and happy bride, and as I always say: “A happy bride, is a pretty bride”!
My favourite thing about Morrell’s is surely the colour palette. From the Bridal Room through to the decor, the soft pastels paired with cream wallpapers and bronze details makes for gorgeous photos that really captures the glamour of weddings. Clara’s design choices in her beautiful low-back dress and quirky DIY shoes reflected this style as well. Clara describes her choice of venue: “I love the whole vintage theme, so Morrells is perfect for that. We did not quite settle for the High Tea, but it still fitted into that theme and the pastels, little tea cups and bunnies worked perfectly. I love animals and wanted the bunnies and bird cages, and loved the Chickens running around. We wanted our guests to have an opportunity to dress up and be spoilt with good quality food and drink.” When Clara was asked what her highlight of the day was, she chose the Candy Station! “I loooooved my candy station with the little teacups and all my vegan sweets. It was important for me to make the wedding as vegan as possible whilst still accommodating the determined meat eaters. The best part of the station was our cake! I found it on Pinterest and just knew I had to have it! Carrot cake is Darryn’s favourite and it was the chef’s first vegan cake!”
I asked the couple to share their engagement story with us. Clara reminisces: “It was absolutely magical. Our anniversary was on the 18th of December. I had been nudging Darryn about booking a nice place to eat out at and he kept telling me that we should just go with the flow on that day….
On that morning I gave Darryn his gift and then he advised me to pack an overnight bag. From there we travelled through to the Monkey Sanctuary to do a tour (he knows my love of animals) and then he said right let’s go for lunch….we drove through to Magaliesburg to this beautiful lodge called Budmarsh. It’s a stunning secluded lodge with beautiful gardens and there we were greeted with a picnic basket. We had a wonderful picnic and then moved through to our room where we were met by two masseuse who pampered us with full body massages…. after which we relaxed and went down for supper. We were the only ones to dine in their cellar….we had a proper 6 course meal and then just before dessert Darryn proposed going down on one knee! When the dessert came they had written congratulations on the plate!”
Lastly I asked Clara and Darryn if they had any “stand-out” vendors, and we got a mention! “Chantal Rudman from Olivelli : Such a darling to deal with! Puts in a personal touch! And Natalie Field: Thank you for being there early and for staying late and all the freebies and for the most amazing wedding pics anyone could ever ask for! Everyone has just wowed about them…..they say it looks like a photo shoot!”
