David & Kim’s Destination Wedding in Peppermint Bay, Tasmania.
I am catching up on some well overdue blog posts for 2015, and wanted to share David Orr & Kim Costello’s amazing destination wedding in Peppermint Bay, Tasmania. This Australian couple returned to David’s home town of Hobart for their special day, where friends and family joined them for a yacht trip to Peppermint Bay where they tied the knot under an open sky in view of the ocean!
David and I met briefly during my time in London and caught up at my sister’s wedding many moons ago as they remained friends. She suggested to him and his wife to be, Kim, to get in touch for their wedding photos. Naturally I was over the moon when they decided to book with me. So in March of 2015 I spent a couple of days in Melbourne with my sister before the short flight to Tasmania, where David picked me up from the airport. I spent the next few days getting to know his lovely bride Kim and their families at the family home, which was very special. I believe this kind of interaction prior to a wedding really breaks the ice and creates a comfortable environment in which the photographer can truly capture those candid moments.
It was 3 years into the relationship on a Christmas morning when David proposed to Kim. Imagine Kim’s disappointment when she opened her gift, a toy BMX bike, only to find an engagement ring hanging from the handle bars! Kim had her hopes pinned on an outdoor wedding, and found Peppermint bay online. When she mentioned the boat ride David was sold and so the gorgeous venue with its abstract facade and beautiful views was booked. The theme of vintage glamour suited the venue and the bride perfectly.
Kim shares some of the highlights of her big day: “For me it was very emotional when I watched all the guests arrive and walk over the grassy hill. That is the moment when the realisation of getting married hit me. I loved the ceremony; David was in good form cracking a few jokes and everyone laughing. Our eldest son Oliver made it pretty special too. He was just so excited the whole day; he loved getting dressed up and all the drama of the day. During the ceremony when I was crying he walked up and said ‘here you go mummy, you can wipe your tears away ‘and handed me his Kerchief from his suit pocket! Pretty sweet and cute! Then later after the speeches he grabbed the microphone and started to sing ‘you are my sunshine’ and the whole room erupted into song, everyone including the waiters sung along with him.”
